Sebastian Werle
A Candidate for Vice Rector
prof. dr hab. inż. Sebastian Werle

Born in 1978. He obtained his PhD in 2008, habilitation in 2015, and was awarded the title of professor in 2022. He currently works as a full professor at the Department of Thermal Engineering.

He specializes in environmental engineering and energy. He is the vice dean for Cooperation and Development at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Energy, and a member of the Discipline Council for Environmental Engineering, Mining, and Energy at the Silesian University of Technology. He is also a member of the Senate of the Silesian University of Technology and the coordinator of the Priority Research Area  Climate and Environment Protection, Modern Energy. Additionally, he serves as the head of the Renewable Energy Laboratory.

Activities

He is the project leader for two grants funded by European Eunion (FP7 and Horizon Europe) and four national grants. He actively collaborates with scientists nationally, including AGH University of Science and Technology, Bielsko-Biala University, Rzeszow University of Technology, and internationally, including China, Norway, Romania, and Italy. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Power Technologies and has been a member of the Polish Institute of Combustion since 2010. Since 2011, he has actively participated in the work of the Asia-Pacific Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering Society. Since 2019, he has been a member of the Energy Commission of the Polish Academy of Sciences branch in Katowice, and since 2015, the scientific advisory boards of international conferences such as Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems and the International Conference on Combustion & Energy Utilization. Additionally, he has been a member of scientific committees for numerous national and international scientific conferences.

He has undertaken several scientific internships abroad, including at NTNU Trondheim, Technical Research Center of Finland, Jyvaskyla, and a six-month industrial internship at the Institute for Studies and Power Engineering in Romania. He is the author and co-author of over 400 publications, including a patent, and has supervised three completed doctoral theses. He is the mentor of the student scientific circle "Environmental Engineering in Energy and Automotive." He teaches courses such as Biomass and its Utilization, Energy Production from Biomass, Fuels, and Combustion.
